List of Android Mobile Phones most likely getting the Key Lime Pie Update

It has been just few months that Google rolled out jellybean - Android 4.2 Most of the Android phones are yet to get the official Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update & Google is preparing to unveil Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie in 2013. Key Lime Pie which also know an as KLP will be the newest & latest android OS and should offer some great functionality if it has to build a lead over the iOS market.

It would be very interesting to see how mobile manufacturers are going to please the buyers with KLP update as most of the smartphones with ICS are yet to get a JellyBean update. We have created a list of phones which we think are likely to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update as they are the flagship devices of each handset maker.

Samsung devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has made a big impression in the market will definitely be among the first few phones to get the Android Key Lime Pie update. It is one of the best phones offered by Samsung and they will want to keep ahead of the competition by offering support to a device that has such a huge following.

Samsung Galaxy S3
Another flagship Samsung device which has made waves is the Samsung Galaxy S3. It has been the hottest selling phone offered by Samsung and is very likely to get android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update because disappointing such a huge fan base would not really be a smart move for the handset maker.

HTC devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

HTC One X, One X+ & HTC One XL
HTC's dark horse One X will surely get the KLP update. One X, its sibling One XL and its upgrade the One X+ are mobile phones with great hardware and topped the list of various benchmark tests conducted on Android devices. HTC might not release a ton of phones each year but when they do release them, they tend to be spot on with what the market expects.

HTC One S
One S is a great phone but in some of the coutries like India, the One S has been launched with a different set of hardware and that's why we aren't sure if the One S will get an KLP update or not.

HTC Droid DNA
The newest phone launhced by HTC has an amazing set of hardware and a brilliant screen to go along with it. The Droid DNA will definately sell well thanks to its gorgeous 400ppi 5 inch screen and as with all manufacturers, its their priority to always support their best phones, making the Doid DNA a sure shot for the Key Lime Pie update.

Sony devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

Sony has recently announced that it's older 2011 Xperia phones will not be getting the Jelly Bean update which include Sony Xperia Arc Sand the Xperia Mini Pro.

Sony Xperia S & Sony Xperia P
Sony has confirmed the Jellybean update for the both phones and while they will be old by then, they're still popular phones and most probably they will be getting the Key Lime Pie update too.

Sony Xperia ION
Xperia ION is another great Android device with a good spec sheet and has been decent in its popularity and should get the Android 5.0 KLP in it.

LG devices getting Key Lime Pie Update

LG Nexus 4
LG & Google's NEXUS which has been recently released comes in two variants, one with stock Android in it bought from Google Play and one with the LG's flavor of Android in it. While the Nexus 4 will get a stock Android update, LG will definately want to support their newest flagship device and provide it with the Key Lime Pie update whenever it is released.

LG Optimus G
Another popular device from LG, this was the best selling device before the Nexus 4 was launched thus making it a default receiver of the Key Lime Pie update.

While this list is based on speculation, do you think there is any good contender phone that we missed out which will get the KLP update? If so, let us know in the comments section.

Top 5 must have calling tools for Android

These tools will definitely help you get the best calling experience from your android device.

Smartphones today have changed the way we communicate, literally. Today we have voice messages, text message, pictograms and every sort of way to communicate all thanks to the small little device that lies in our pocket.
top five apps
Here, we have compiled a list of top 5 apps which will enhance the call making receiving functionality of your smartphone.
True Caller
True caller application is a database of phone numbers and names that it collects from publicly available sources and populates its databases. Users get the option to choose whether to share their existing phonebooks with the application or not and contrary to popular belief the application does not steal phonebook data.
top five apps
The application takes just a few seconds to search for the person who is calling based on the mobile number which is searched in its database and tells you about the person in advance. The app is lightweight and utilizes GPRS data without ads and is really helpful.
Call Confirm
Touchscreen are a boon for users but occasionally they cause a bit of discomfort to the users also when accidentally the device makes a call while the user was not very attentive and in turn you end up calling the person who generally is the last called person or someone whose name appears first on the phonebook.
top five apps
But with Call Confirm you can avoid all these errors and problems in a jiffy. The application has a very simple function and every time a user makes a call the app asks and confirms whether user wants to call the specific number or otherwise.
top five apps
One confirmed users call is made the usual way otherwise it is dropped gracefully without any sort of embracement that might happen due to accidental calling.
Auto call record
The Auto Call Recorder application for Android is the perfect and the most appropriate solution for those who receive a ton of calls and have the tendency of forgetting about the convertation. The Auto Call Recorder app allows users to choose between automatic call recording for all the calls that they receive or from the users who are not there on your contact list or no recording at all if you do not feel the need of it.
top five apps
The application also provides a variety of options in terms of audio formats for compatibility and higher sound quality as well; plus users can choose where they need to save the files or recording for easy discovery later on.
top five apps
Although there is a limit of 100 call recordings in the free version but that is more than sufficient for important messages plus users can always buy it pro version if they need more support and features.
One of its best features is the Dropbox integration that allows users to save all the recording on the cloud storage so that if the need be to share the recording with a group of people they can easily do it using the power of cloud.
Netquin Call blocker
We all hate telemarketers calling us at all the wrong times and that is why our government has implemented the Do not Disturb register. So once you register yourself over there you would not get any calls from telemarketers. But like all good things this also does not come with hidden terms and conditions. Anyone who has used the DND register knows it also stops all the useful SMS and calls like form your bank, favorite shopping website or store form coming on to your device.
top five apps
So what to do, well you can create a DND directory of your own with the help of Netquin call blocker. This neat little utility allows users to blacklist numbers for both calls and SMS from whom they wish to ignore or do not receive calls and messages while not losing out on other important stuff, as in the case of DND.
Skype
Everybody loves free calling and what is better than Skype when it comes to inter platform calling. Skype utilizes the voice over Internet protocol or VOIP as we call it medium to contact users while the only money spent on calling is spent on the data consumption which today most Smartphone owners have in plenty due to monthly data bundles that telecom companies offer.
Skype allows users to call different users from their mobile device to other mobile devices or even computers. The biggest advantage is that the application is available across different platforms such as Windows Phone and iPhone apart from android and it supports cross platform calling which means an iOS user can connect to android and vice verse.
top five apps
Along with that Skype also allows users to make calls the traditional way on regular cellphones which call charges are kept competitive.
Overall Skype is a fun to use and a very useful calling tool that can help users save some money ad it offers video calling as well.

Amp Audyssey Music Player for iPhone will eke out every ounce of sonic goodness from your headphones

Yes, you read that right. Often I find myself in a conundrum on the iPhone because of the lackadaisical nature of the built-in music player because of the lack of equalization controls on the iPhone. Yes, you get a crippled set of EQ setting buried in the vast depths of the setting menu, but that’s about it. And if you happen use the standard Apple earphones then good luck, because the sound will not be what audiophiles expect it to be. On the other hand if you download a third-party music player that does offer you a number EQ settings, then a novice will be at a loss because you need some basic working knowledge of the app, before you even start otherwise you could end up ruining the sound. The Amp Audyssey Music Player is what you want on the iPhone as it offers the perfect balance between ease of use for fine-tuning the sound of the music and usability.
How does it do this? Instead of conjuring a confusing list of EQ settings it offers to tweak the sound on the basis of the headphone you are using. The app has a database of 200 popular headphones/earphones and chances are you will find your own product in the database.
Of course, Audyssey is a company that is well known for its audio chops that are found in record studios all around the world and also in IMAX theaters and they bring that know-how in a byte sized format in the form of this iPhone app.
This may sound similar to the Beats Audio EQ engine found in HTC smartphones, but there is a massive difference. Beats Audio only works with the headphones supplied with the device or a compliant Beats headphone, the Amp Audyssey music player supports a legion of products that cater to whims and fancies of different users with different musical tastes. Beats is decidedly geared towards bass heavy hip-hop music.
All that one has to do is plug in a headphone, choose the name of the product and flip on the headphone switch and boom you are good to go. The sound is optimized in accordance with the headphone. In the back-end, Audyssey has settings saved for particular headphones that will eek out every ounce of sonic goodness from your headphone and iPhone.
In my testing the sonic difference was wildly different. Be it the crappy old Apple earphones, the new earpods supplied with the iPhone 5 or the elegant suave Bowers and Wilkins P5 headphones.
The sound was richer and full and frequencies popped with a level of grandeur one expects of an amplified source. Mind you, the iPhone does not have a digital audio chip like the one HTC phones come equipped with, so most of this is coming from the software itself.
I, for one, have even started using it in my car set on the Bowers and Wilkins P5 setting because they are truly very balanced headphones and the setting that Audyssey has put in place even has a positive effect on my car audio system.
That said, this is still not audiophile grade sound, but nonetheless the effect is so good that it breathes new life into one’s daily aural experience. Priced at just Rs 55, it’s worth every single Rupee.

Rumoured Asus ME172V aka $99 Nexus tablet shows up in Russia

The rumoured $99 Nexus tablet Asus ME172V has made an appearance over a Russian e-retailer. Carrying the same specs as the previous leaks, the tablet is currently listed for pre-order, but not everything is hunky-dory here. The site has put a hefty 6,990 rubles (USD $227) as the price-tag, which does not match with any of the rumours and seems overpriced even for the specs in question.
The images in the product listing also lack the Nexus branding, leading many to speculate that it might not be a Nexus tablet after all. But, we have seen similar pictures of Nexus 7 too before the actual launch, but the final Nexus 7 had Nexus on its back. So, anything more will be pure speculation at this point, and we will have to wait until CES to get a clearer idea of what we are going to see in the final product and its pricing.asus nexus Rumoured Asus ME172V aka $99 Nexus tablet shows up in Russia

Xiaomi teases Mi2 launch in Hong Kong, sells 50K units in 5 minutes on Sina Weibo

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is finally planning to expand out of the home-market and it seems Hong Kong will be the first country outside China to see the launch of its Mi2 smartphone.  In other news, the company carried out the experiment of selling Mi2 smartphone via Sina-Weibo social network earlier this week and it turned out to be a big success.
According to a report in Tech in Asia, Xiaomi teased its plans to expand in Hong Kong yesterday via a tweet from its official @XiaomiChina account. The tweet states:
“Xiaomi is going to launch a new market in [blank] on [blank].”Xiaomi Hong Kong or Taiwan tweet Xiaomi teases Mi2 launch in Hong Kong, sells 50K units in 5 minutes on Sina Weibo
While the text part of the tweet did not have anything revealing the Hong Kong launch plans, the attached image listed out the key specs of its Mi2 phone in traditional Chinese script, which is used in Hong Kong and Taiwan, but not in mainland China. The same image also contained a map of Hong Kong in silhouette, and had the Bauhinia flower (as appears on the Hong Kong flag).
Making it almost certain that Hong Kong expansion is very likely to happen.
Earlier, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun had hinted towards Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore as targets for online sales by the end of the year.
In other news, Xiaomi experimented with its traditional online selling model by offering its latest smartphone Mi2 on social network Sina-Weibo. The experiment was a success, as the batch of 50,000 Mi2 smartphones was sold out in just 5 minutes and 14 seconds, claimed Xiaomi.
The buyers will be paying for the phone using Sina’s new WeiboPay e-payment service and will receive the phone in two days, reports The Next Web.

This is a great step taken by Google, now we hope to see more localized options like music and movies, etc.

Facebook for Android to get a lot faster with an upcoming major update

Well, it looks like the policy of stimulating its employees to adopt Android smartphones has yielded results for Facebook. An update for the social network’s Android app scheduled for later today, is bound to significantly increase its speed and overall performance.
In order to achieve the above result, Facebook’s app developers have done away with HTML 5 coding.Instead, they have used native code to speed up loading of images and browsing through the News Feed.
The update will also bring to Facebook for Android some features, which were previously available only on the iOS app. The most notable among those is the “new story” banner. Naturally, a slew of other, not so visible, improvements such as improved memory efficiency and a new custom scrolling engine have also been added to the popular app.

Google Nexus 10 Unboxing by FA

The Nexus program from Google has been transforming from a developer focused one to a completely consumer focused one. The message is very clear, Google wants to use its services(Google Play) and the best possible way to use them is by buying their Nexus devices. Starting from the Nexus One, the program has seen many phones, till the Nexus 4(See our unboxing here) a 7 inch tablet made by ASUS, the Nexus 7, but we never got to see a 10 inch one. But then, amidst “Sandy”, Google launched the first 10 inch Nexus device – The Google Nexus 10, made by Samsung. And yes, we have got it in our hands already, after a terrible launch delay. Check out the unboxing video below -
Lets quickly go through what’s in the box before talking about the actual device, eh?
The outer cover of the box, like all the newest Nexus devices, has some advertising from Google on why you need to buy this device, along with the usual logos and what not. While the Nexus 7 box actually resembled the tablet like the number 7, there is nothing like that for the Nexus 10.
We got the 16 GB WiFi only version, and yes, this tablet is made by Samsung, with hardware design and materials mandated by Google.
The actual box though, is a nice pitch black one, with a cool letterpress-like Nexus logo on it.
And right inside the box, the Nexus 10 lies on top, underneath which the accessory box resides.
And as you can see, like all the other boxes, it has the mandatory set of accessories that include a travel charger, a micro USB cable and a couple of useless information booklets. Lets get to the device then. You can check out some other photos of the box contents in the gallery below.
The Nexus 10 is a well rounded device, and I mean this just in terms of looks. It is curvaceous at best and is a pleasure to hold. On top is of course the USP of this device, the brilliant 300 PPI 2560X1600 10″ TFT display made by Samsung. We will definitely take a deeper look at the display and the rest of the device in detail, in our review. On the sides you can see the standard stereo speakers that are now a constant in all the Samsung 10 inch tablets.
You have the front facing camera and the ambient light sensor near the top edges of the device. The front camera is a 720p capable 1.9MP unit.
On the top, you have just the volume rocker and the power/lock switch. The usual assortment of I/O that’s usually present on other Samsung tablets is notably absent. On the sides, you have the micro USB port, the Micro HDMI port and the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
What impressed me most was the back of this device. It was made with a beautiful matte soft touch plastic material which feels extremely grippy in your hands and makes the device a joy to hold. I never expected this aspect to be so impressive, alas but Samsung made me think so, the prejudice was shamed. On the same back, you have a textured grip, possibly for better grip to hold in the portrait orientation(pointless on this device, yet still) and of course the 5 megapixel shooter on its back, accompanied by a LED flash and a back facing microphone.
And finally, the bottom of the device has that dock connector that started appearing on Nexus devices starting with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I think it’s a Google led effort to standardize some accessories for its range of devices.
That’s it for the unboxing and a quick hardware tour. A quick round-up of specs would be – Nexus 10 – a 10 inch 300 PPI Android 4.2 JellyBean tablet that has a 9000 mAh battery, a 5 MP camera on the back, a 1.9 MP camera on the front, 16GB of storage, WiFi connectivity running on a Dual Core A15 Exynos processor with 2GB of RAM and a Quad Core Mali GPU. For a full list of specifications, feel free to visit this page for learning about it. And as always, stay tuned for the full review!
